'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Ethan Galbraith resumes clash with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he remembers the nail-biting closing stages of Swansea's stunning fightback triumph against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. That match culminated with Galbraith briefly donning a supporter's spectacles amid the post-goal scrum.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith struck the post with a speculative strike from outside the box, and the defender immediately hammered in the rebound before racing off toward the crowd to revel in the moment, with the crowd swarming the players.

Extraordinary Turnaround

The result capped an incredible recovery given the Welsh side had been behind 2-0 during the final 45 minutes. In the euphoria, there was some collateral damage. The midfielder recalled, "There was a supporter sort of calling out and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're individuals, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

The result earned a next round match at home against the Premier League champions on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith came close against at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with the London side in February. He had arguably the best view when the underdogs took the lead in remarkable manner, with a teammate's volley from about long distance going in via the woodwork and the City goalkeeper. It feels criminal that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've awarded it to him for taking the effort on from that range," says Galbraith, who started in midfield before moving to right wing-back after the team changed tactics. That meant getting to grips with Jack Grealish, with whom he swapped shirts, and the winger was among the Manchester squad who paid tribute to the way the underdogs played positively.

Guardiola's System

"Athletically they are outstanding but even the basics and simple things, they can just do it over and over again," Galbraith says. "It feels like they complete every delivery and they understand how to manage and slow down a game. You can believe you're holding your own and then suddenly they will just thread a ball between defenders without you even noticing. You have to be switched on every second of the game. It takes a strong mentality and attention just to keep pace."

Welsh Transition

The Welsh side pushed to sign Galbraith in January and beat off competition to secure him in the summer in a £1.5m deal. He established himself as a fans' favourite across two seasons at Orient and has quickly achieved similar status in his new home. At Orient he reunited with Richie Wellens, who previously gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in first-team action on loan at Doncaster from United. Then came a loan at lower division Salford, before he moved on from Manchester United.

Growth Journey

"I was perhaps a somewhat inexperienced going into senior level. I think many athletes would say youth team games is very different. Sometimes it appears play is circulated without serious challenge. There's not many tackles or duels. Once you start playing professional matches you have to adjust fast."

National Team Success

He has demonstrated that growth for club and country, excelling for Northern Ireland, who remain in contention for the global tournament next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has been selected in the past five games, including both legs encounters against a football powerhouse. Ian Baraclough, Galbraith's ex- international manager, paid him the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "little Iniesta or Xavi" given how he manipulates the ball and his knack for a game-changing assist.

Humble Beginnings

It has been a remarkable path for the kid from the local area in his hometown, just outside Belfast, who used to see his dad, the elder Galbraith, also a engine room operator, play for his father's team.

Red Devils Debut

The player's only game for Manchester United came in the away trip in 2019, a Europa League trip to the Kazakh capital, where they played on an artificial pitch and the stadium roof was sealed owing to the weather of freezing cold. "This represented a extended travel and it was cold out there," he says, chuckling. "The preceding week, the academy prospects trained together, so that aided our adjustment. Just to join the main group and make an appearance at the end was unbelievable."

Departing Old Trafford

What was the challenge was it to depart Manchester United, the club he joined from Linfield aged 16? "This turned out fairly simple, because I got to the stage where I understood I wasn't going to make it at first-team level. I'm extremely thankful for the experience gained but it got to the point where I thought I required a fresh start, join a smaller club and play men's football. Now I'm slowly progressing again."

New Environment

It is mid-afternoon at the club's training ground but Galbraith has somewhere to be at late afternoon: a learner's exam, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Before his recent move to the local area, the 24-year-old was a regular in Swansea's dubbed team minibus, a minibus driven by club employees, the transport team, which ferries players to and from training and matches.

"My companions include Gonçalo Franco, Ronald, the midfielder – a former passenger used to be in it but has started driving. It's nice to socialize with the guys but I'm planning to be the following person to stop using the bus and driving. The Portuguese player is known for his humor; he's frequently playing tricks."

Public Engagement

When he represented his former club, Galbraith would mix with supporters on public transport after beginning his trip at the area he lived in. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
